Head of the District Monitoring Committee, Engineer Qamar Ul Islam Raja, has sounded the alarm on the increased threat of dengue larvae proliferation following recent rains, emphasizing the urgent need for proactive measures to combat the spread of the disease.
In a meeting convened to assess the anti-dengue preparations, Engineer Qamar Ul Islam Raja, along with Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Hasan Waqar Cheema, Member National Assembly Malik Ibrar, and Members of the Punjab Assembly, Raja Muhammad Hanif, Naeem Ijaz, and Imran IIayss, underscored the importance of raising awareness among the public through various means. The officials were directed to organize seminars, walks, and other outreach activities to educate the community about dengue prevention strategies.
It was emphasized that banners and posters highlighting the dangers of the disease should be prominently displayed in key locations across the city. Additionally, plans were made to conduct Truck meetings at the Tehsil level, chaired by provincial assembly members, to further disseminate information and engage with local communities effectively. Engineer Qamar Ul Islam Raja emphasized the necessity of involving the area Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) in all anti-dengue initiatives, ensuring coordination and collaboration at the grassroots level. Addressing the issue of stagnant rainwater, which serves as a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes, arrangements were instructed to be made for its prompt drainage.
Recognizing the critical role of stagnant water in fostering dengue breeding, efforts to mitigate this risk were prioritized. Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema provided an update on the dengue situation in the district, indicating that only four cases had been reported since January 1, all of which had been successfully treated with patients discharged home. He highlighted the ongoing surveillance efforts, both indoors and outdoors, aimed at curbing the breeding of dengue larvae and preventing further transmission of the disease.
As the threat of dengue looms, the concerted efforts of government officials and community stakeholders are essential to mitigate the risk and protect public health. Through proactive measures, including awareness campaigns and environmental management, the goal is to minimize the incidence of dengue and safeguard the well-being of the population.
